Jamie — Thanks for the compliment! I’m glad to hear when people enjoy what I’ve written, even when I don’t write all that much.

I really need to find a way to write more, I’m just afraid that I’ll write watered-down stuff.

Kris — I totally agree about the personal nature of dream interpretation. I’ve taken a more metaphorical approach to it, after reading and listening to some of the work of David Gordon, author of “Therapeutic Metaphors”. I think the key is to look beyond the actual CONTENT of the dream, and begin to focus more on the CONTEXT, i.e., the structure itself.

[…] Speaking of dreams - my entire life I’ve had very vivid dreams during the night. There has always been a quality to them that seemed real - as if they were, in fact, taking place - perhaps in another dimension. While that’s been mostly great, it’s occasionally been less-than-desirable - particularly when I’ve been the victim of a nightmare. When I was a kid I had nightmares very frequently, the kind where I would wake up screaming after having been chased by a vampire, or a zombie, or a witch, or whatever evil being my dreamworld could conjure up. Even though I frequently had dream powers, like flying or shooting lightning bolts from my fingertips, those powers would generally fail me as soon as one of these evil dudes entered the picture. However, it was an accidental dreamtime discovery during what should have been a nightmare that led me to lucid dreaming AND helped me conquer the nightmares that had been occuring so often. Hi Bill,
I don’t like to play dream analyst for anyone else since different things have such varied meanings and symbolism for each individual, but I’ll put forth an idea that popped into my mind while reading your description of the dream. The building might represent your mind, and by exploring the building in your dream you’re exploring all the deeper corners your mind. It could represent so many different things, but that’s the first thing I thought of. Dream interpretation is such a personal process, and the dreamer is usually the only person with the background knowledge needed in order to uncover the meaning in his/her dream.

I am continually amazed at your blog. I very much enjoy reading about your dreams, as I find that this for some bizarre reason helps me to remember my own. I just let my brain absorb what you dreamt, and then try to remember an equally “different” dream. For some reason it works for me. Keep blogging!
